Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Historical Milestones

Atmos Fritzsching & Co, of Germany, is granted a patent related to the use of a vacuum pump, catheters or cannulae, for the intermittent suction of fluids. The device provides for automatic control of the drainage process within adjustable ranges of negative pressure. During pre-settable pause intervals, lower negative pressure is established and maintained to avoid blockage of the catheter, and backflow of fluids.
