Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)

Historical Milestones

Davydov et al:

229 subjects with purulent lactation mastitis
NPWT .8 – 1.0 atmospheres
20 minutes intial treatment, followed by twice daily for 2.5 to 3.0 hours for 5-6 days.
Combined with surgical debridement, NPWT resulted in improved immune response, improvements in microbial control, less scarring, and shorter healing times.

Kostiuchenok et al:

221 subjects with various purulent wounds
NPWT before and/or after debridement
Control group with debridement only
Short average treatment times lasting less than 10 minutes on average at negative 100mmHg.
Combined with surgical debridement, NPWT resulted in significant improvements in microbial control and healing.
